Chavez Supermarket

With a presence in the Bay Area since 1984, integrating Chavez’s established and successful brand personality was of prime importance. Through the use of clever structural aesthetics and collaborative problem solving, we were able to achieve a result that stayed true to not only their tenant improvement goals, but to their budget and schedule as well.

Locally & Family Owned

When this family-owned, Hispanic supermarket chain wanted to improve and update the interior of its San Mateo store, we were thrilled to help.

At the San Mateo location, Chavez offered aisles of grocery items as well as a taqueria for both shoppers and the greater community to enjoy. The main challenge in this large, open space was to find a way to delineate where shopping ended and dining began. Working closely with our architectural and construction partners, we cleverly established the eating area through the use of suspended light-fixture housings. Columnar in shape and attached flush with the ceiling, these brightly-colored features gave the space a festive vibe and a more three-dimensional feel. The need for seismic safety in northern California is clear, so we provided structural support and appropriate anchorage for not only elements of the interior remodel, but also for an additional mechanical unit on the rooftop.
