Learn More About Structural Engineering

The SE Education Hub is part of our ongoing effort to provide more insight into structural engineering as a career path. By sharing both student perspectives and professional input, we hope to help others learn more about the field and its real-world impact.

What do structural engineers actually do—and how much do students know about the field?

To explore this question, our marketing intern Michelle visited the JLA Ohlone Campus to ask students what they think structural engineers do. The goal was to better understand how familiar students are with the profession and where there might be gaps in awareness.

Back at the office, Michelle followed up with our engineers at Element Structural Engineers to hear how they would describe their work—offering a clearer picture of the role structural engineers play in designing safe, resilient, and functional buildings.

Watch now to hear what students had to say—and how it compares to the work structural engineers actually do.
